Target Ages: 13 – 21+
Workshop Model: This advanced skill workshop is designed for students who show an interest in independently creating artwork and design outside of school art classes. Workshops are limited to eight students. Each student is matched 1 : 1 with a mentor—volunteers from the professional creative services industry. Classes are led by an experienced Special Education teacher, with additional support staff such as a Creative Director, Art Buddy, and SPED Buddy. The learning experience also incorporates the opportunity for incorporating hand drawn or painted artwork into the final composition.
Workshop Objective: Students will be treated to a guest presentation from a Minneapolis designer who’s portfolio includes concert and gig posters. Students will then choose a famous, visually expressive pop song to base their design project on—for example, Yellow Submarine, Purple Rain, or Firework. Over the course of the 2.5 hour workshop, student/mentor teams will sketch, design, and present their final poster. Posters will be shipped to students via mail, generally arriving 2 weeks after the workshop.
